William James was the son of William and Elizabeth Burchell. He was single, working as a labourer and living at the Royal Hotel, Caboolture, Queensland, when he enlisted. His next of kin was a friend, Edith May Jenkins, of Newmarket, Brisbane. William was badly wounded resulting in the amputation of his left leg. After the war he returned to Newmarket and married Rosina Jenkins (nee Stone) circa 1945.Death date15 December 1948
