Frederick's parents were Thomas Bryant and Alice Caroline Skerman. The Skerman family was early pioneers of Harrison's Pocket. His occupation was a farmer when he enlisted on 3 October 1916 at Brisbane. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A64 Demosthenes on 23 December 1916. Frederick was living at Toogoolawah with his parents when he returned home from the war and working as a farmer.
