William Morton was the son of James Morton and Ada Redshaw who resided in Wamuran, Queensland, when he enlisted. The family came to Australia in 1894 on board the ship Oldenburg from the Port of Bremen. At the time of his enlistment in May 1916 he was single and farming at Wamuran, Queensland. William was killed in action instantly by a sniper's bullet during a German attack at Dernancourt. He was buried in an unmarked grave behind the support lines.Death date05 April 1918
