William was the son of John Stenhouse and Margaret Yule. He was married to Mary Morland and they were living in Toowoomba, Queenlsand when he first enlisted on 20 October 1915. He spent four months with the Australian Imperial Force in New Guinea and was discharged medically unfit needing a Varicocele Operation. He reapplied after this operation at the age of 40 and embarked with his unit from Sydney on board RMS Karmala on 3 February 1917. William had fractured his right leg prior to enlistment but fell down a gangway while being transported on board RMS Karmala and aggravated the old wound when a small piece of steel entered his leg. He was returned to Australia and discharged on 25 January 1918. According to the Electoral Roll of 1919, William and his wife were living in Beerburrum, Queensland.Death date04 February 1921
