George Duncan was the son of George Urquart Grant and Mary Jane O'Brien. George's father had died in 1882 and his mother had then married James William French in December 1883. George was 42 years old, working as a labourer and living at Mt Mee, Queensland at the time of his enlistment in August 1916.
