Henry's parents were Charles Henry Sutton and Adeline Gomersall. Henry's father died in 1901 and Adeline later married William Bynon in 1905. Henry enlisted 28 April 1915 at Rosewood. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A9 Shropshire on 20 August 1915. He returned to Australia and married Beatrice Taylor in 1920 and settled at Mount Whitestone via Grantham as a Dairy Farmer. He enlisted in the Second World War at the age of 46 in 1940 and served with the Australian Citizen Military Forces as a Sergeant until 8 December 1944.
