Richard's parents were Edward Brazier and Martha Dickinson. Richard was living with his wife Martha in Toowoomba when he enlisted. He embarked on 27 October 2016 on board HMAT A75 Marathon from Brisbane. He was wounded in action and returned to Australia in October 1917. Richard settled in Redcliffe and was Honorary Secretary and President of the Redcliffe Sub Branch of the Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia (RSSILA). He was also involved in the Redcliffe Show Society, Progress Association, Volunteer Fire Brigade and owned a General Store opposite the Redcliffe Jetty.
