Thomas's parents were Eli Marstella and Agnes Connley. Thomas was 21 and single when he enlisted in March 1915 and at that time his step-mother Mrs M A Marstella resided at the Redcliffe Hotel. A brother, Sidney Edward Marstella, lived at Sandgate, Queensland. Thomas was killed in action in August 1915.
