Maurice Marks Rowe (known as Mark) was born on 4 April 1891 at North Pine, to parents William Richard Rowe and Jane Woodward. Theodora Mortensen was born on 16 August 1887 to parents Niels Peter Mortensen and Johanna Maria Thomsen. When his parents retired Mark and his brother Tom traded as the Rowe Brothers at their parents' dairy farm at Baxter's Creek. Upon marrying, Mark moved into another house built on the farm with his wife Theodora. He also set up a citrus orchard of several acres below his house.
