Thomas James Rowe was born on 9 December 1893 and Lily Mortensen was born on 12 January 1893 in Bundaberg. When his parents retired Mark and his brother Tom traded as the Rowe Brothers at their parents' dairy farm at Baxter's Creek. Upon marrying Tom built a house on the family farm. Tom and Lily had six children and in 1935 they moved to Redcliffe.
