Richard Gordon O'Neill was born on 13 March 1888, son of Thomas Arthur O'Neill and Salome Elizabeth Kendall. Mabel Emily Morey was the daughter of Alfred Morey and Annie Hart. At the time of their marriage Dick was working at the Silverwood Store in Terrors Creek (now known as Dayboro). In the early 1920s he had a grocery store at the corner of Williams Street and Bradley Street Dayboro, first in partnership with Donald McKenzie then with Ludwig Ernest (Ernie) Lindenberg.
