He married August Marie Elizabeth Riek on 20 June 1879. She was born on 7 February 1848 at Gerswalde, Uckermark, Prussia. They both arrived in Moreton Bay on the Fritz Reuter on 7 February 1879. On 30 September 1879 Christian Frederick Bechly selected property at Mt Pleasant, being Portion 16 Parish of Pine containing an area of 77 acres.
