TitleWilliam Henry Rohlf and Susannah Jane Rohlf (nee Williams) with their ten children in 1912DescriptionWilliam Henry Rohlf was born on the North Pine River (at Fishery Pocket) on 26 June 1868. His father, Hans Heinrich Rohlf, was a carpenter and came to the district in 1867. It is believed that he was the carpenter employed by William Henry Day to construct the buildings on his sugar plantation. Hans Heinrich Rohlf was born on 6 May 1835 at Schierner Bisnitz, Schleswig-Holstein, Prussia. He married Elspeth Schumann on 15 May 1859 at Kaltenkirchen, Schleswig-Holstein, Prussia. Elspeth was born on 17 May 1831 at Hasenmoor, Schleswig-Holstein, Prussia. They arrived in Moreton Bay on the Helene on 2 August 1865. On 14 June 1869 Hans Heinrich Rohlf selected Portion 18 Parish of Samsonvale, containing an area of 100 acres. The property was on the southern bank of the North Pine River in an area known colloquially as Fishery Pocket and/or Hell Hole. Today it is known as Armstrong Creek. The Rohlf's from Schleswig-Holstein, were a significant pioneering family in the Dayboro district.
