He married Mary Ann Dobbin on 3 October 1923. Mary Ann Dobbin was born on 3 March 1895 at Mt Pleasant, to parents Leonard Dobbin and Mary Jane Robinson. Leonard Dobbin had large land holdings at Mt Pleasant. John Thomas Hall was enrolled on the Pine Rivers Electoral Roll at Mt Pleasant on 29 March 1917. His brother David Andrew Hall was enrolled on 29 November 1917. On 1 February 1918, Portion 31V Parish of Pine containing an area of 160 acres was registered in the names of J. & D. Hall. This property was sold 1921. David moved to the Gympie district. The brothers were both plumbers by trade before they tried their hand at farming. Harold John Hall was born on 23 November 1926 at Albion. In 1928 John Thomas Hall purchased several blocks of land in Delaney Road, Dayboro and built a large family home. Following some family troubles John and Mary Ann Hall moved back on to the Dobbin family farm at Mt Pleasant to help her brother James Dobbin manage the farm.
