Sandstone Point (Qld.)
DETAILS
NameSandstone Point (Qld.)Alternative nameToorbul Point (Qld.)Pebble Beach (Qld.)DescriptionOriginally known as Toorbul Point, the area was the site of an Allied amphibious training base during World War II.
The area's easternmost part is Toorbul Point, once an assembly place for members of the Ningy Ningy Aboriginal clan. Toorbul, or 'Turrbal', was first learned by Nundah missionaries who were guided there by local Indigenous people in 1841, the word apparently being a reference to the bora ground south of Bestman Road.
