Bellmere (Qld.)
DETAILS
NameBellmere (Qld.)DescriptionIt has been claimed that the origins of the suburb name Bellmere, was after the local landowner Arthur John Bell.
Arthur John Bell was born in Caboolture and married Margaret Robison in Caboolture. They lived in Caboolture and owned the land where Bellmere is now.
Arthur John Bell gave two acres of land to the Qld Government to build the Bellmere School on. He farmed his land and took a keen part in public affairs, having been twice elected as a member of the Caboolture Shire Council. He also took an active part in the establishment of a school at Bellmere and was chairman of the school. At the time of his death he was chairman of directors of the Caboolture Co-operative Cash stores, and a committeeman of the Memorial School of Arts and other public bodies. He was also a member of the Clydesdale Masonic Lodge, No. 95, of which he was a past master. The Bell family continued to live on the land, the property being in the family for close on 100 years.
