TitleJanuary 2011 Flood Event - Debris and damage left after the North Pine River flooded DescriptionOn 11 January 2011 a major flood event occurred in the North Pine River. This flood event was the combination of above-average levels of rainfall over an extended period prior to 6 January 2011 and peaked on 11 January 2011, thus impacting on the North Pine Dam and the surrounding catchment areas. The North Pine Dam operators had to open five floodgates on 11 January 2011. This photograph was taken just after 11 January 2011 looking southeast while standing on Gympie Road near the entrance to the Petrie Paper Mill which is north of the AJ Wyllie Bridge (southbound) over the North Pine River. There is a lot of debris up against the railings on both sides of the bridge. The lower AJ Wyllie Bridge (northbound) in the top right corner of the photograph was substantially damaged and was replaced. The reconstruction of the AJ Wyllie Bridge (northbound) involved the demolition of the existing northbound bridge structure and the reconstruction of a new two lane bridge on the same alignment as the AJ Wyllie Bridge (southbound). The guard railing on the side of the road has been destroyed and there is also erosion along the side of the road. There are a lot of people walking around looking at all the damage.
