TitleSweeney Reserve and the old low level road bridge over the North Pine River during the late 1920sDescriptionThis photograph was taken from one of the safety platforms on the railway bridge. Gympie Road can be seen winding away from the northern end of the bridge along the raised floodway and continuing past the kiosk and residence of the Sweeney family. Following the opening of the low level bridge in August 1877, this road carried all of the traffic travelling north to Gympie. The original bridge, which was severely damaged by the 1893 flood, was rebuilt in 1896. It was not until 1936 that the first of the two existing bridges at Petrie was opened. The Sweeney residence, which can be seen in the distance at the right, was moved onto higher ground following the flood of 1927.
