Opening of railway to Samsonvale
So far the extension opened on Saturday has proved the most costly portion of the line, one of the chief causes being the increases m cost of material and in wages given by two awards made duing the course of construction. The station at Samson Vale is in an unfinished state. He hoped when he visited them again he would see a continuation of farms and homes between there and Enoggera.
The inspector (Mr Rose) who had been appointed to search out land suitable for soldiers' settlements had re-ported so favourably that there was suffi cient encouragement to warrant him (Mr Hunter) in saying that the line was going on. He hoped that very soon they would see a soldiers' settlement in the district. (Cheers ) Mr Hunter, in replying to the toast, said the line, however, would be one to be remembered, as it was not without sentiment, because the 50 000 soldiers in going to the Front from Queensland had had to traverse it from Enoggera camp.
Money was very hard to get at present. A number of railway lines had been started in Queens land and would have to be finished. When this line reached Kobble Creek a large area of good land would come within it's influence. They were looking for good banana land for soldiers and if the people in the district would not work the land he intended to take it and to put returned soldiers on it.
