(Charles Thomas) Williams and family, Mount Pleasant, ca. 1890DescriptionPeople in the photograph from the left - Charles Thomas Williams (Senior), Mrs Elizabeth Williams (nee Watt), daughter Violet Mabel (who later married Frank Hart), son George Frederick on a horse and daughter Laura (who later married William Franz Sellin) also on a horse. In 1874, Charles Thomas Williams selected land at Upper North Pine, now known as Mount Pleasant, and was among the first settlers in the area. At first, the Williams family lived in a bark hut, then a slab hut with a shingle roof and later the timber house with a corrugated iron roof (as seen in this photograph) was built from pit-sawn beech obtained on the property. Charles Thomas Williams followed farming and dairying pursuits until he retired in 1903. He was also a member of the Pine Divisional Board (known from 1903 as the Pine Shire Council) from 1898-1905 and 1907-1910. He was Chairman in 1904.
