TitleJohn Young (1862-1946) second eldest son of George and Sophie Young of Youngs Crossing, 1939DescriptionIn September 1873, George and Sophie Young arrived in Brisbane from Kent, England, with their children Henry, John and Rhoda. Although their early movements are uncertain, it is evident that they settled on twenty-one acres of land (Portion 63 Parish Warner) on this site several years before they purchased the property in 1880. Another child, Elizabeth, was born here is 1879. After they established a successful dairy farm, the family progressively increased their land holdings to nearly 2,000 acres. After the death of George, the property was inherited by the surviving son, John. John Young was a Redcliffe Shire Council Councillor from 1914-1921 and was Chairman in 1919. He was later a Pine Shire Council Councillor for twenty-one (21) years, serving from 1921-1924, 1927-1933 and 1934-1946.
