TitleJohn Gilliland (1867-1934), pioneer settler and Pine Shire Councillor from 1907 until 1921DescriptionAlthough he was born at Oxley Creek in 1867, his father, also named John, purchased land at South Pine in the same year. He assisted his father on the home farm before turning to the timber-getting industry, later acquiring his own farm, Mountain View, at Mt Samson Creek (Mount Samson Creek). He was appointed to the Pine Shire Council in August 1907 to replace Councillor William Fogg who had resigned. Representing Division Three of the Council, he was returned at each election until July 1921 when he did not offer himself for re-election.
