TitleTipperary Cottage, Petrie, ca. 1914DescriptionThis building, known as Tipperary Cottage, is believed to have been one of the first houses built on Redcliffe Road in the section now known as River Street, North Pine (Petrie). The cottage was supposedly built by James John Casey and Hilda Casey who migrated from South Africa after the Boer War. The building, which stood on the site later occupied by Jackson's Garage, was moved to Sandgate around about 1919. Mrs Hilda Jessie Maslen can be seen on the balcony holding Trudy (Gertrude Louisa) Gilliland (b. 1913). Trudy was the daughter of Henry Phillip Hobbs Gilliland and Louisa Jane Gilliland (nee Battershill) (1884-1980). At the time the photograph was taken, Louisa Gilliland rented the cottage from the Casey family and the Maslens were boarders. Hilda's husband, Samuel John Maslen, was a railway worker.Dateca. 1914CollectorBattershill FamilyRecord typePhotographFormat typePhysicalOriginal format colourBlack and white
