TitleNorth Pine School of Arts, ca. 1906DescriptionThe North Pine School of Arts was built on land purchased from Tom Petrie in 1889 and opened on 28 January 1890 with a gala official opening ceremony. Prior to the addition of a skillion roofed extension on the northern side, it was 62 feet long, 30 feet wide and 26 feet from floor to roof. It could seat 450 people. There was a stage at one end and a back room which was later divided into a library and a reading room. The hall cost 1,000 pounds, including a semi-grand piano. Builders included John Bond, Fred Schwartz (who worked on the roofing and plumbing) and John McTaggart (who completed the interior decoration). The hall became the focal point of the district and has been used as a polling booth, local government office, movie house, dance hall, library, etc. Inferior copy of photograph PRLPC-P0064.Dateca. 1906Record typePhotographFormat typePhysicalOriginal format colourBlack and white
