TitleThomas Henry Ware, Petrie, ca. 1895DescriptionThomas Henry Ware, butter churn and dairy utensil manufacturer and importer, North Pine (Petrie), 1893-1901. The photograph shows the Ware family outside the shop. Thomas Henry Ware moved with his family to North Pine in 1893 where he set up business as a dairy utensil maker. He rented a building from Alexander Jackson Wyllie and lived on part of the premises, using the remainder for a workroom. This building stood on the eastern side of River Street opposite the present location of the Petrie Hotel car park. Here he was able to expand his business and later to erect a small workshop at the side of his shop. Employing men to assist in the business, he made a wide range of wooden dairy utensils under the registered brand name of Devon. As the demand for commercial sized equipment increased, this workshop became too small for his needs and, in 1901, he moved to a factory in Annerley Road South Brisbane.
