Nikolaus and Christine Ebert sailed to Brisbane on the Johann Cesar from Germany in 1863. They settled in Lawnton in 1864 on land that is now part of Ebert Parade. It was on this land that the family established a vineyard. Nikolaus was a carpenter and worked on St. Thomas' Anglican Church and the old Redcliffe Jetty. He died in 1908 and is buried in the Lawnton Cemetery with Christina and other members of the family. Many descendants of this pioneering family still reside in the region.
