Queensland Agricultural Journal
The Queensland Agricultural Journal was published monthly between 1910 and 1989 by the various Agricultural departments of the Queensland State Government. The journals contain information regarding pest management, farming techniques, stock management, veterinary procedures and general information that was used by farmers (eg. rainfall, market prices, planting schedules, advertisements, soil analyses, fertilizers etc.). This information may be useful to local and family history researchers. The department was established as the Department of Agriculture on 17 June 1887. In 1904 it was renamed the Department of Agriculture and Stock, and retained that name until 1963 when it was given its current name, the Queensland Department of Primary Industries (DPI). During its first 100 years the DPI has developed a proud record as it has helped Queensland grow. Change and progress have brought both success and disappointment - a sense of achievement in the good times, and frustration in the bad times. The Queensland Agricultural Journal, established in July 1897, has played its role in the State's rural development. Throughout these years it has maintained a link between the department's research, extension and regulatory staff by reporting on practices, innovations, laws, research findings and recommendations affecting the State's primary production. The Queensland Agricultural Journal ceased with the 1989 November - December issue being the final publication.
