Dame Annabelle Rankin was the first woman in Australia to enter the Federal Ministry. In 1946 she was elected to the Senate as a Qld Liberal, in 1957 she was made a Dame of the British Empire on the recommendation of former Prime Minister Sir Robert Menzies. After 25 years in Parliament in 1971, Dame Annabelle was appointed Australian High Commission to New Zealand. Dame Annabelle moved to Deception Bay in 1974 although had spent weekends there since 1963. The Deception Bay Progress Association recommended to Caboolture Shire Council in 1987, that a park be named in her honour. the 1200 square metre park is located near where Dame Annabelle lived. Dame Annabelle died in 1986 aged 78.
