Brian Battersby Park, Arana Hills (Qld.)
Councillor of Pine Rivers, Brian Harold Battersby, born in 1945, built his home in Eromba Crescent, Ferny Hills, late in 1970. As he was elected to the Pine Rivers Shire Council in 1976 and successfully sought re-election at all subsequent Council elections, he was the longest-sitting councillor at the time of the final demise of the Council in 2008. This park, formerly the site of a sewage treatment plant, was named in 1985 to honour Brian Battersby's long association with the Council's Water Supply and Sewerage Committee. Although the decommissioned sewage treatment plant had caused many problems, the park was named in the hope that local residents would realise how much he had achieved to assist them with those problems. The Brian Battersby Reserve was a later extension to the area of parkland in the vicinity.
