Brian Burke Reserve, Samford Valley (Qld.)

Councillor of Pine Rivers, Brian Joseph Burke was first elected in 1972. Brian Burke had been a shire councillor for twenty-one years when he was returned in 1994 to represent the newly defined huge Division One area with coverage from Mount Pleasant to Mount Nebo. He was also elected Deputy Mayor in 1994 and 1997. The 2000 council election result saw Brian lose by 19 votes in a six way contest. In May 2000 council resolved to rename the area of parkland along the top of House Mountain Range to be Brian Burke Reserve and that all additional parcels of parkland which progressively joined that reserve be similarly named. Brian Joseph Burke was a councillor for 27 years and died 22 July 2002, aged 61 Burial Samsonvale Cemetery.
