12 December 1972 saw the opening of barbecues and recreational facilities at the Forestry north of the district named Bunyaville before 1900. The 7 July proclamation of this area as State Forest was in a reduced acreage being only 1575 acres from the 2180 acres gazetted as a reserve for railway purposes on 5 June 1874 as State Forest 69, Parish of Bunya. There has been a permanent ranger within the forest since the 1920's
