From Coordination Committee Meeting Minutes 24 August 2010, pg 10/2058: Local historian, Melva Welch suggested that as one of the early pioneers operated the land as a poultry farm for many years, that the park be named using Aboriginal names to identify with the land use. As the dictionary of Aboriginal names shows no word for poultry or chicken, Ms Welch has suggested, “Bimbi” meaning “a place of birds”, or “Gymea” meaning “birds”.
