Homestead Park, Petrie (Qld.)
DETAILS
NameHomestead Park, Petrie (Qld.)Information
The pioneer landowner of great significance to the Homestead Park area was Nicholas Wilcox Wyer (1837-1894). As well as purchasing Portion 35 (49 acres) at the 14 July land sales, Wyer also leased Portions 34 (44 acres) and 36 (71 acres) at the time. The Portion 36 lease covered most of the area now occupied by the Mungarra Reserve to the south of the park. An 1863 report on the Redcliffe Agricultural Reserve noted that Portion 35 contained a hut and was fenced and cultivated. Circumstantial evidence suggests that the hut on Wyer’s property was located in the vicinity of today's Homestead Park; the rise on which the park is located was the most obvious site in the whole area on which to establish a farmhouse.
