Jessie Barker Reserve, Everton Hills (Qld.)
Landowner of Portion 8 off Dawson Parade, dairying from 1916 and active in community affairs. Although the family only lived on the land for about 5 years in the 1920's, the cattle were kept on the land for much longer while the house was rented out. While in residence, the Barkers were hosts to the meetings of the little progress association of the time and held office in the local Mt Pleasant Tennis Club which operated on Patrick's land adjacent. After Mrs Barker's death in 1944, the property was sold about 1951 to the newly built housing commission area at Grovely. Family members objected strongly to the 1978 naming of the park situated upon lands formerly owned by them. A small area to the east of the property has been given the name Jessie Barker Park
