John Scott Park, Samford (Qld.)
John Nicol Scott (1896-1983) was a distinguished breeder of Ayrshire dairy cattle on his 'Auchen Eden' stud property at Camp Mountain. His farm supplied milk to Pauls (QUF) for 56 years. He was a member of the Brisbane Milk Board for 25 years and a foundation member of the Queensland Dairymen's Association. He was also a Pine Rivers Shire Councillor from 1961 to 1970 representing Division One (Samford and the Hills District). John Scott, known to all as a kindly person and a true gentleman, served the Division extremely well at a time when the Hills District was developing at a rapid rate. The park evolved after the Samford Railway Station and yards were phased out following the closure of the Dayboro Branch (Ferny Grove to Dayboro) Railway in 1955. Bill Nelson, a local postmaster, realised the land would make an excellent park, so he organised a petition which was presented to the Pine Rivers Shire Council. A subsequent Council approach to the State Government resulted in the former rail property being set aside as a recreational and sports reserve.
