In 1967, after William's death the park at Strathpine (where council is now) was named after William Thomas Protheroe who was heavily involved in the community and the show society. He was employed as the Superintendent of works for Pine Rivers Council. Council construction began on the new council building in the 1960s, and the garden was named after W T Protheroe when construction had finished.
