Wyllie Park, Petrie (Qld.)
The Wyllie family had the land which included the park now Wyllie Park. The only thing remaining are the gates which were the entrance to the farm. James Wyllie selected land in South Pine at the corner of South Pine Road and Leitchs Road in Brendale and his son, Alexander, owned a farm called ‘Riverleigh’ on the North Pine River. The Wyllies were dairy farmers. The suburb of Wyllie which existed for a few years in the Shire and was part of the farm which belonged to Alexander Wyllie. Other Wyllie family members had land in the Brendale area, near Samford Village and in Petrie. The family was involved in schools and churches in the shire and they received their first communion at the Presbyterian Church in Petrie. Alexander Wyllie served as Chairman on the Pine shire Council and he was liked by many. Mr Wyllie ran Sunday School in the North Pine Presbyterian Church for 51 years. Many of the people who attended Sunday School still remember the day he died. He was buried in the Lawnton Cemetery. The Wyllie house was located right on the edge of the steep embankment of Wyllie Reserve.
