Amity Park was named for the brig Amity which was built in New Brunswick, Canada, in 1816. This ship was first used as a trading vessel then purchased by the New South Wales colonial government for exploration and supply. The first group of soldiers and convicts to arrive in Moreton Bay in 1824 sailed from Sydney in the Amity. The Amity was wrecked off Flinders Island 18 June 1845. -- Redcliffe : Looking at the landscape by Pat Gee acknowledging the work of Jack Stapleton and Pat Fields
