Barry Bolton Park was named for Barry Bolton who was born in Ipswich in 1936. He trained as a teacher and taught at schools in Brisbane, Esk, Murgon and finally at Clontarf Beach State High School where he was a Foundation Teacher, leaving in 1991 after 27 years service at that school. Barry was first elected to council in 1979. He was appointed deputy mayor from 1982 to 1991 and then decided to contest the Mayoralty. He was Redcliffe City Mayor from 1991 to 1997. Barry is a Life Member of the Redcliffe Show Society and the Redcliffe Leagues Club and has been a member of the Lions Club of Redcliffe City since 1968. He was elected President of the Redcliffe RSL Club in 1999 and has been a member of this Club for nearly forty years. He was awarded an OAM for his service to the community in the Queen’s Honours List in June 1996.
