Charlish Park, Redcliffe (Qld.)

Alfred Alexander Charlish was born in Lane Cove, New South Wales, in 1923. He joined the army when he was 18 and met his future wife, Doreen, in Brisbane. The Charlish family moved to Redcliffe in 1950 where Alf conducted a successful carrying business for 26 years and was involved in many community activities. He was elected to council as an alderman in 1976, 1979 and 1982, serving two terms as Mayor in 1985 and 1988 before retiring from public life. -- Redcliffe : Looking at the landscape by Pat Gee acknowledging the work of Jack Stapleton and Pat Fields
