Alfred Alexander Charlish was born in Lane Cove, New South Wales, in 1923. He joined the army when he was 18 and met his future wife, Doreen, in Brisbane. The Charlish family moved to Redcliffe in 1950 where Alf conducted a successful carrying business for 26 years and was involved in many community activities.
