Alfred Hubner owned and operated a dairy farm on the site currently occupied by De La Salle College. His farm consisted of 89½ acres which included a well stocked vegetable garden and a variety of fruit trees including mulberry, grapefruit and mandarins. He grew feed for his cows and also reared pigs. Mr Hubner eventually sold his land to the Catholic Archdiocese. [See also: Streets - Hubner St] but all that [land on the western side of Scarborough Road] belonged to Alf Hubner and he was – he was a real gentleman but he was a real country bloke.
