Lahore Park, Woody Point (Qld.). Moreton Bay Our Story, accessed 14/05/2026, https://ourstory.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/nodes/view/51807
Lahore Park was named for Lahore Hill, which in turn was named for flats named ‘Lahore’. An area of about 3 acres 1 rood 20 perches was left by Surveyor Delisser when surveying the adjoining section in 1881. The land comprising Lahore Park was originally designated as a Recreation Reserve (R.141) in 1913 and was a popular camping ground for many years. People would direct campers to this area by using Lahore flats, located at the top of the hill, as a landmark. In 1937 a new road connecting Margate Parade and Whytecliffe Parade was constructed. The bank alongside this road was graded to give parking space for campers and the area was then named Lahore Hill or Lahore Hill Reserve. Some years later the name became Lahore Park when camping in that area was prohibited. The name Lahore would probably have come from the city of Lahore in Pakistan but the reason for this is unclear. Lahore is the capital of the province of Punjab and the second most populated city in Pakistan. It is located near the river Ravi and the Indian border, Wagah. The Sikhs ruled the Punjab region for over half a century until the British Raj took control and Lahore became part of the British Empire until independence was granted in 1947. A Colonel George Andrew Ferguson who had served in the British Army in India, owned land nearby and it seems likely that he named Lahore Flats. -- Redcliffe : Looking at the landscape by Pat Gee acknowledging the work of Jack Stapleton and Pat Fields
