Mahogany Park was named for Mahogany Court. Mahogany is the term used for various tropical timber trees of the family Meliaceae and in particular the genus Swietinia. These trees are valued for their hard yellowish- to reddish-brown wood as it is easily worked and takes a high polish making it ideal for cabinet-making. -- Redcliffe : Looking at the landscape by Pat Gee acknowledging the work of Jack Stapleton and Pat Fields
