Pearson Park, Redcliffe (Qld.)
Pearson Park was named for former Redcliffe Town Clerk, J C Pearson. [See article below] To Be Called Pearson Park An area of land set aside by the Redcliffe City Council as a reserve, bounded by Klingner Road, Jacaranda Avenue and Steven Street, has been named Pearson Park to commemorate the name of the late Mr. J. C. Pearson who was Town Clerk of Redcliffe for 18 years. This was decided at the last general meeting of the council when aldermen recollected that the late Mr. Pearson had been appointed as Town Clerk early in 1946 when the population of Redcliffe was only 8858. During his 18 years in office, until the time of his death in April, 1964, he saw this number grow to more than 24,000. It was felt that the city owned a debt to the memory of Mr. Pearson who upheld the finest traditions in all phases of his work, and who was one of the most highly respected citizens on the Peninsula. In recognition of the work he contributed towards the development of the city over a great number of years, his name will be immortalised by the naming of the park in his memory. The grounds to be known as Pearson Park will be developed into one of the main reserves in the city. Centrally situated – it is immediately adjacent to the Redcliffe State High School reserve – it was recently allocated as a practice ground for the City of Redcliffe Girls’ Marching Association. At a public meeting held in June to discuss the allocation of fields for Peninsula sporting bodies, Mayor of Redcliffe Ald. C. Kroll told the meeting that this area was one of the finest grounds in Redcliffe.
