The Redcliffe Botanic Gardens is an area bounded by George Street to the north, Trilby Street to the west, Henzell Street to the south, and Bradley Park to the east. In 1995 this area was set aside as ‘Reserve for park and Recreation under the trusteeship of the Council of the City of Redcliffe’. Formerly the Wallum Project, the land had been lying idle for some time before being developed as a reserve and environmental centre by the combined efforts of the Redcliffe Education Centre and the Redcliffe Australian Plants Club who promoted the concept in 1988. The Council continued to develop the Botanic Gardens and completed 90% of planned capital works including new perimeter fencing, shelters, paths and signage. The bulk of this was completed under the State Government’s Community Jobs Scheme which aims to provide long-term unemployed people with job opportunities.
