Thurecht Park was named for David August Thurecht who set up a sawmill at Kilcoy in 1918 where he met and married Susan Kassulke. He also started a mill at Scrubby Creek near Royston and while still operating this mill, he decided to set up a timber yard in Redcliffe in 1929 to sell the timber from the Scrubby Creek mill. The Thurecht family moved to Redcliffe that same year. When the Scrubby Creek mill was destroyed by a cyclone in 1935, Mr Thurecht decided to build a mill at Redcliffe. When the mill was opened it employed 6 men and by 1959 60 men were employed. In 1952 the firm was registered as D A Thurecht and Sons. The family built a cargo boat to carry cypress logs from Bribie and Stradbroke Islands to Redcliffe. They also built a landing stage for the logs at Scarborough which was extended to a small jetty and then to a longer jetty in 1956. The mill was moved from its position on the north-west corner of Oxley and Anzac avenues to Duffield Road in 1979.
