Walker Park was named for Ted and Violet Walker who farmed in this area for many years. Ted Walker was born at Lawnton in 1906 the son of Samuel Walker and Martha Cash. The Walker family moved to Redcliffe about 1913 and settled on a farm beside the site of the Scarborough State School. Ted bought his own farm - 24 acres from the Ashmoles, and 80 acres from Mr Pikett - in 1927 when he was 21, but lived at Scarborough with his mother until 1953. Before his marriage Ted milked his cows, worked his farm and managed a warm-milk run from Margate to Scarborough all by himself. He then married Violet and had a house built on the Ashmole Road property, known locally as the Race Course Farm. They ran a herd of dairy cows which they milked by hand, and Ted delivered milk daily. In 1968 the Walkers sold most of their land, retaining only one acre for themselves. -- Redcliffe : Looking at the landscape by Pat Gee acknowledging the work of Jack Stapleton and Pat Fields
