Wattle Park was so named because it runs off Wattle Road. The Australian Wattle is an Acacia. It became known in Australia as Wattle because the early settlers used the thin branches and trunks to form the walls of their dwellings which were sealed with clay or mud, and this form of construction was known as ‘wattle and daub’. -- Redcliffe : Looking at the landscape by Pat Gee acknowledging the work of Jack Stapleton and Pat Fields
