Yourell Park, Clontarf (Qld.)

Yourell Park was named for Owen Eugene Yourell, more commonly known as ‘Chook’. A member of the Redcliffe South Rotary Club, Owen was involved in many community improvement schemes and was the guiding force behind the successful Cascades project at Redcliffe. Yourell Park was so named as an acknowledgement of ‘his contribution to the Scouts and kids in this area’. Owen restored this area housing the Clontarf Beach Scout Group by using graders provided by Council and working after hours, transforming a waste land into a useful park. -- Redcliffe : Looking at the landscape by Pat Gee acknowledging the work of Jack Stapleton and Pat Fields
