Description
This is a curated collection of images and items related to the Houghton Highway.
The Houghton Highway was opened on 20 December 1979. Costing $8.4 Million and built between 1977 and 1979, the Houghton Highway was named for James (Jim) Houghton, former Mayor of Redcliffe City Council, State Member for Redcliffe and Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland.
It was built to take the growing volume of traffic crossing the Hornibrook Highway.
After the Ted Smout Memorial Bridge was built in 2010, the Houghton Highway was upgraded to carry the north bound traffic.
